FAQs

Q: What kind of range can I expect in real use?
A: Range varies by terrain, rider weight, assist level, and conditions. The manufacturer suggests ~ 20–25 miles on mid assist, and up to ~ 40 miles on the lowest assist (flat terrain).

Q: Is the battery removable?
A: The battery is integrated into the frame, designed for aesthetics and protection. It is not described as easily removable in the specifications.

Q: What happens when the motor stops assisting?
A: When the assist limit (25 km/h) is reached or in no-assist mode, you can continue pedalling like a normal bike - there’s no loss of pedalling ability.

Q: What’s the expected charge time?
A: It takes about 3 hours to fully charge from flat according to the product specs.

Q: Can I use this e-bike for commuting or heavier loads?
A: Yes - the inclusion of the front crate and rear rack helps handling light loads. For heavier cargo or longer distances, you’ll want to verify battery capacity and consider how much assistance you’ll need.

Q: What maintenance should I expect?
A: Regular maintenance, such as brake checks, drivetrain lubrication, tyre pressure, and periodic inspection of battery health, is recommended. If mechanical disc brakes are used, occasional adjustment/pad replacement may be needed.

UK Road Legal Disclaimer (EAPC / Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle)

To be legally ridden on UK roads without registration, tax, licence, or insurance, an electric bike must comply with EAPC regulations:

  • It must have pedals that can propel it.
  • The motor’s continuous (nominal) power must not exceed 250 W.
  • The motor must cut out at 15.5 mph (≈ 25 km/h) - i.e., no assistance above that speed.
  • The e-bike must clearly display the manufacturer’s name and motor power output.

The La Rue is specified with a 250 W rear hub motor and a maximum assist speed of 25 km/h. On that basis, when manufactured and delivered within these limits, it qualifies as a legal EAPC in the UK.

However, note:

  • Any modifications (e.g., reprogramming the controller, increasing power, or adding throttle) can invalidate compliance.
  • Ensure your delivered unit matches the 250 W specification and assistance cutoff.
  • Only the version that meets the legal limits qualifies as a “normal bicycle” under UK law.
  • Always ride responsibly and in accordance with UK highway and cycling rules.
  • Some listings warn that e‑bikes with higher power or throttle features are not road-legal in the UK
